Young & Jackson Hotel

The hotel has been a meeting place for Melburnians since 1861

The Saloon The Young and Jackson Hotel (Y&J's) has stood beside Melbourne's busiest crossroads for more than 140 years. As Melbourne's oldest continuously operating hotel it has emerged from humble origins to become an icon for the city and Australia's most famous pub.

Y&J's is famous for many reasons, not just its landmark status, on the corner of Flinders and Swanston streets, or its past early openings and riotous 6pm closing when hoards consumed as much as possible prior to the closing bell.

Tasting Tray It is home to the beautiful Chloe, a stunning 19th century French academic nude painting by the Master, Jules Lefebvre. Until the 1960s Chloe was a rare opportunity for adolescent boys to view a naked woman - many men later recalled sneaking a peek at the curvaceous brunette.

Dine with ChloeDuring wartime Y&J's was popular with soldiers, as the last port of call before being shipped out, and first port of call upon return home. US Marines from WWII remember Young and Jackson's (and Chloe) with great affection, riotous days of beer and brawls. All considered, those who have encountered the Young and Jackson's have carried their own memories of the hotel away with them.

On weekends and Public holiday's come along to 'Beer Ambassadors' - Fun & free beer tasting sessions with a difference. Discover the history of the Hotel and sample a variety of beers with our famous nude 'Chloe'.

Melbourne's meeting place has now become a great eating-place too.

Australia's leading brewer Carlton and United Breweries has revitalised Young and Jackson's, Australia's most famous pub. It's exciting and it's showcasing Melbourne's great beer, food and wine, and, of course, the famous Chloe.

If breakfast is the big meal of the day for you, enjoy the casual atmosphere of the downstairs Corner Bar while you read the daily papers and watch the crowds go by.

Y&J's is more than a legend because it's now a great place to meet, eat, drink and relax.
